What is a workstation express card?

I freshly bought a new laptop and it have a slot for an express card. I have no hypothesis what this is, what it's purpose is or where to purchase one. So any info you genus people can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:

ExpressCard technology is the describe of a new standard introduced by PCMCIA surrounded by spring 2003. The ExpressCard standard delivers thinner, faster and lighter modular expansion to desktop and notebook computer users. Consumers can give hardware capabilities such as memory, wired and wireless communications cards and shelter devices by simply inserting these modules into their systems. All ExpressCard slots accommodate modules designed to use either Universal Serial Bus (USB*) 2.0, or the emerging PCI*Express standards.
