What is an integrated optical drive surrounded by a laptop?

I merely got a laptop and it say that it comes with an integrated optical drive. What is is for?? Thanks!

Answer:

Optical drive is the big word for CDROM.

Integrated be a sign of it is built in, not detactable type of CDROM.
Internal cd or dvd drive ?
I infer that's your cd drive. It loads cds and dvds.
thats just a fancy course of saying it have a built in compact disc drive.
It is a CD or DVD drive.

It is for playing music CDs, read background CDs and possibly playing DVDs.
it means explicitly has a built-in cd and or dvd drive.

\('_')/
a compact disc or DVD drive which is within the laptop, not connected thru a cable (e.g. USB).

The type of drive can be:

compact disc R (CD read only)

CD RW (CD read an write)

Combo (CD RW + DVD read)

All kind of DVD writing standards (e.g. DVD-R, DVD+RW, etc.)
