What is card slot on side of laptop call?

Answer:

PCMCIA - it stands apparently for 'Personal Computer Memory Card International Association' but I prefer to meditate of People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms

They are often freshly called PC Cards for short, and some brands phone up them CardBus slots.
I think card slot is the proper permanent status.
disk drive?
its called PCMCIA card slot

Personal Computer Memory Card International Association
Standard and elder PC's have one or two 'Card Slots', also particular as PCMCIA. These each are around 2 wide and 3 adjectives.

The new slot interface showing up more and more is with the sole purpose about 1 huge and 2 inch deep is call Express Card and should take over the PCMCIA if things budge well as it's better and faster.

If it is a slot about the thickness of a credit card and about 1/4 inch gummy, then explicitly a PCMCIA slot, if it is significantly smaller then that, specifically a card reader.
