What is a broken pipe on mac osx?

something have happened to my mac laptop and when i try ti get underway any files that end near .dmg a message comes up saying the following disk logo failed to mount due to a broken pipe

any assistance would be good

Answer:

a broken pipe is unix-speak for a series of programs that go past info from one to another, had one program die!

it could denote mean the dmg is destabilized or diskimagemounter.app is damaged or one of those unix programs is damaged/missing.

try to undo the dmg file near Disk Utility, app instead!

Is it Disk Copy that opens and give the message? There are three possible problems:

1. Image file is incomplete or corrupt. Compare the size of the folder with the size shown on a download page for the record. If your file is smaller, it is probably incomplete. If it's the correct size, it still might be corrupt.

2. Disk Copy is dog-eared. This happened to me once. I trashed Disk Copy and used Pacifist to extract a fresh copy of Disk Copy from the OS X install disc and that fixed it.

3. Some file surrounded by the operating system is corrupt. Check the version of the operating system (click on the Apple logo > About This Mac). If it is exactly like as that of the install CD, reinstall. If the compact disc is an older newspaper, DON'T REINSTALL. Instead, download an Apple updater that is matching version as your current system and install that.
