i would similar to to start a mobile disco but do not know what equipment i would need, can i run the lights and speakers etc from a laptop, i know abit give or take a few electrics etc but do not know what is needed to set up.

Yes you can use a laptop but you would need some species of interface from either serial or USB to control external devices.
